One of my favorite experiences on the World Race so far has been getting to know the girls on the mountain in Honduras and do Bible study with them! At 6 in the morning we would get up to read scripture together with whoever was able to join out of the 11 high school Honduran girls. Over cups of coffee we would tell stories to them about Rahab and how she was faithful to the Lord and hid the spies, about David standing up to Goliath with courage because he knew God was with him, and about Hanna trusting in the Lords promise of a child.

It was so refreshing to see their excitement about the Bible! We were met with comments like “Wait! that really happened?? God really did that??” They would ask so many questions. As soon as Bible study would end they would excitedly ask, “when can we meet again!?”

One morning I asked them if they had their own Bibles. They said no. So thanks to some donations and my squad mates gathering their money we were able to head into the city to buy all of the girls Bibles. Everyone on the squad took turns praying over the Bibles, highlighting their favorite scripture verses, and writing notes to the girls in them.

The women on my squad put together an event to celebrate our time in Honduras with the girls. We had games, a time of worship, sharing testimonies, and feet washing with them. It was really beautiful to be a part of. At the end of the night we presented the Bible’s to them and prayed over each of them.

They treated their Bibles like a treasure. They carefully read each note. When it rained they would wrap them up in plastic bags to keep them from getting wet. It was an incredible gift for the Lord to allow us to give His word to our new friends.

It was also so challenging to me. I saw they way they treasured their Bibles and their excrement about the word. I own multiple Bibles and I realized I really take it for granted. Honestly, I’m not proud to admit this, but I have not been reading my Bible as much lately. I really want to read the Bible with a fresh excitement and wonder. I want to read the stories of what Jesus did in amazement because what the Lord has done is absolutely amazing. God’s word is powerful and life changing. I want a life that is changed by Him.

Hebrews 4:12, For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires.

Psalm 119:105, Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path.

James 1:21, So get rid of all the filth and evil in your lives, and humbly accept the word God has planted in your hearts, for it has the power to save your souls.

  1. This update was so refreshing! God is always at work! Thanks for sharing! Prayers continue.

  2. This was so precious. It brought tears to my eyes as the young girl read 13th chapter of Corinthians. Such a wonderful reminder of how easy it is to take God’s Word for granted and how precious it really is. To think God will speak to those young girl’s hearts and how much different their lives can be. What a blessing. Love this!
